The historic Collins Theater is located in downtown Paragould. The Art Deco building opened in October of 1925 as the Capitol Theater and originally hosted vaudeville and other live stage entertainment in addition to movies. Political pundit and cowboy comedian Will Rogers once performed on its stage. The world premiere of the classic "The Man Who Came To Dinner" starring Belle Davis and Paragould's own Bill Justice, known as Richard Travis in Hollywood, took place on its screen. Later renamed the Collins Theatre, the theater was restored and renovated by the Greene County Fine Arts Council and the Collins Theater Foundation starting in 1991 to transform the facility into a modern community arts center. The Collins Theater is now home to the Eastern Arkansas Ballet and is also being used by the community for a wide range of cultural and general entertainment events including beauty pageants, fashion shows, dramatic plays, summer musicals and revues, children’s theatre events, gospel music and country and western shows.
