In 1913, Charlie Korschgren, a local railroad worker started the tradition of marching down historic Avenue G, through the Main Street District. He carried a big base drum and the children from town would march along, in homage to Independence Day. This tradition has continued, with children decorating their bicycles, wagons and making floats. The High School band marches in the parade, along with civic organizations. Plan on attending the heartwarming city wide tradition, in honor of the United States of America!
Come celebrate our Nation's birthday with the City Band Concert. Bring your lawn chairs or a blanket to spread in the grass as the band plays from the Central Park Bandstand.
Cap off the day by enjoying the patriotic tradition of fireworks over the Mississippi River. It is recommended coming to Riverview Park immediately following the concert to get a good spot to enjoy the display that is launched over the Mississippi River.
