Students of the Quincy Art Center have been invited to exhibit work made in or inspired by Quincy Art Center classes. Instructors of classes with the Quincy Art Center were also invited to share their class example artwork or their personal artwork and members of the Quincy Art Center were invited to exhibit artwork from their personal collections or artwork they have created themselves.

The Mary S. Oakley - Lee Lindsay Artist Showcase is an annual showcase of works by local and area artists that opens every fall at the Quincy Art Center. The Quincy Art Center, a museum of the visual arts, was started in 1923 and is located on the grounds of the former Lorenzo Bull mansion, now the Women’s City Club. In 1990 an award-winning addition was opened with galleries and a gift shop with studio space in the lower level. A variety of rotating exhibitions are presented throughout the year.

Since 1990 groups in Fort Madison have been building lighted floats and organizing the Parade of Lights in November. Following the parade, the lighted floats are on display in Riverview Park through the end of December.

Old favorites and new additions are part of City of Christmas that features approximately 100 displays and nearly one million lights. Visitors to the display will be able to tune into the “Voice of City of Christmas” at 90.1 on their FM radio dial as they near Rand Park and to listen to holiday carols and hear the story of City of Christmas and comments about the various displays as they travel through the myriad of lights and displays.

The Tri-State region offers birders some excellent locations of where to see a variety of species that take advantage of the Mississippi River Flyway. Siloam Springs State Park and Wakonda State Park offer excellent conditions for a good bird watching outing. Lock and Dam #19 in Keokuk is an excellent location to see Bald Eagles during the winter.

Lincoln School, located in Martin Park, was established in 1880 to provide education to African-American children in the Canton area. It served as a school until 1955 when all children began attending the public school. It is only one of a handful of red brick schoolhouses left and serves as a tribute to rural education in this country. Funds are currently being collected to restore the building.

Wakonda State Park is composed of land that once was mined of gravel used to surface Missouri's secondary highways. The land has been transformed into a recreation area featuring six lakes, hiking and bicycling trails, and a rare sand prairie.

The Iliniwek Village State Historic Site is the largest and best preserved remnant known of any Native American village of the Ilinwek or Illinois tribe. A short walking trail crosses the site, and the location of an excavated Illinois longhouse is marked to show its size.

A Civil War battle took place near the river port town of Athens, Missouri. This historic site administers the remaining buildings of the now defunct Exhibits and tours interpret the battle and the history of the town. The site also offers hiking trails, a lake for fishing, picnic sites, basic and electric campsites, and more than a mile of frontage on the Des Moines River.

The 19th century East Ward school was renovated in 1978 when it became the home of the Pike County Historical Society and the Pike County Historic Museum. The museum has memorabilia such as a dray wagon, printing press, wedding dresses, furniture and dishes. There are some local histories, photographs, and documents available for historical research.

The New Philadelphia Town Site is the original site of the now-vanished town of New Philadelphia, Illinois. Platted in 1836, it was the first town in the United States founded by an African-American. The site is now used for archeological studies and is a National Historic Landmark.
