This annual September festival began in 1961 in response to an epidemic of Dutch elm disease. Residents were encouraged to plant trees to replace those being lost with trees sold at the fair for $1. Today many of those trees are mature and grace the lawns and streets of Kirkwood. The festival features food, games, information booths, dog show, canine frisbee competition, parade, wine garden, book fair; folklife artisans, classic car show, sailboat regatta, and live entertainment.
