Since its beginning in 1991 groups in Fort Madison have been building lighted floats and organizing the Parade of Lights and lights up downtown on Avenue G the Friday after Thanksgiving when the American Flag will be lit with patriotic music and fireworks. Spectators are invited to enjoy the lighting of more than 50 completely lit floats. Holiday cheer will be in the air, with decorations and a visit from Santa Claus. This is a time to bring your family and friends to downtown Fort Madison for the largest lighted parade in the Southeast Iowa region and create a holiday tradition. Every evening following the Parade of Lights the floats will be lit and on display in Central Park for drive-by viewing until the end of December.
