National Tom Sawyer Days is for the young and the young at heart. Visitors from all over the world come to experience the history of Hannibal, through the eyes of Mark Twain. Sponsored by the Hannibal Jaycees, this family oriented event has been held since 1956. Activities include frog jumping, mud volleyball, Tom and Becky Contest, parade, Tomboy Sawyer Contest, 10-kilometer run, arts and crafts show and fireworks launched from the banks of the Mississippi River. Highlights include live entertainment featuring national acts, a carnival, the National Fence Painting Contest, and a huge fireworks display launched from the banks of the Mississippi River on the evening of the Fourth.
