The Dorena-Hickman Ferry connects Kentucky with Missouri

Located in the most southwestern point in Kentucky, Hickman is a community rich in historic tradition and gracious southern living. At the highest vantage point is the Fulton County Courthouse, built in 1903 and remodeled in 1990-1991. The courthouse has retained its outward Queen Anne and Dutch Colonial influence and is known to have the only known original operating Seth Thomas clock in the tower. Founded in 1834 the city of Hickman is laid out on six levels of hill overlooking the mighty Mississippi River. The community is only eight miles from the Tennessee state line to the south and across the river from Missouri. The Dorena-Hickman Ferry offers year round passage across the River and is a real asset for both industry and tourism. The ferry is located at mile marker 922 from New Orleans and is half way between Memphis and St. Louis. The Hickman-Fulton County Riverport Authority provides shipment for a wide variety of agricultural grains, steel, petroleum coke, fertilizers and numerous other products, giving a broad industrial base for future growth to its economy. Hickman has the charm and beauty of the South, but most of all Hickman is a river town filled with genuine flavor of Mark Twain's "Mighty Mississippi". In fact, Twain once called Hickman, "The Most Beautiful Town On The Mississippi."
