Since 1947, Fort Madison has hosted one of the nation’s top professional rodeos in a 10,000 seat outdoor arena that plays host to four performances. The PRCA Rodeo action begins every year the Wednesday after Labor Day and providea quality contestants in all the areas of rodeo, from the bronc riding, bull riding, barrel racing to the crowning of the Miss Iowa Rodeo. If you are planning to attend the rodeo, get your reservations in quickly since the area fills up with other fans of quality rodeos.

OLD FORT RENDEZVOUS
Fort Madison, IA

Old Fort Madison, Avenue H (US 61) at Riverview Park
Buckskinners, mountain men, Indians, traders and craftsmen will descend upon Riverview Park and camp around the walls of the Old Fort on Rodeo Weekend to hawk their wares and spin some yarns. Come down and get a taste of what a frontier rendezvous was all about. Competitions will highlight the event.

APPLE DAZE
Donnellson, IA

Depot Park, Main Street
A wonderful, family-oriented festival. Saturday morning features a pancake breakfast and a pork loin luncheon at noon. Activities at Depot Park include games, apple-peeling contest, apple pie baking contest, water fight competition, apple walk, basketball contest, and much, much more for the young and the young at heart. School reunions and open house for Donnellson alumni. Musical entertainment also featured during the day and into the evening. Also featured are a city-wide scarecrow contest and an apple exhibit from Faeth Orchards. Come out and enjoy a fall, September weekend!

CITY OF CHRISTMAS
DISPLAY OF LIGHTS

Sunday through Thursday: 5 pm - 10 pm
Friday and Saturday: 5 pm - midnight
Christmas Eve and Christmas Day: 5 pm - 1 am

Old favorites and new additions are part of City of Christmas that features approximately 100 displays and nearly one million lights. Visitors to the display will be able to tune into the “Voice of City of Christmas” at 90.1 on their FM radio dial as they near Rand Park and to listen to holiday carols and hear the story of City of Christmas and comments about the various displays as they travel through the myriad of lights and displays.

BALD EAGLE
APPRECIATION DAYS

Victory Park and River City Mall, 200 Main Street
Victory Park: 8:30 am - 4:30 pm
River City Mall: 9 am - 5 pm
At Victory Park personnel from the Lee County Conservation Board, Iowa DNR, Illinois DOC and the US Army Corps of Engineers will staff viewing points with spotting scopes to enable visitors to see the large gathering of bald eagles that congregate at Keokuk because of Lock and Dam #19. Activities at the River City Mall include DNR agencies from Iowa, Illinois and Missouri displays, Wood Carvers’ Show, Native American Traders Row & educational booths, Native American drumming, singing & dancing, and storytelling, and World Bird Sanctuary of St. Louis live bird presentations.

If you are interested in the Civil War and want to get "up close and personal" with history then you will truly enjoy your time at this annual Civil War Reenactment. Activities include a Ladies Program and Tea, a Military Ball, Breakfast with the Troops, a National Cemetery Memorial and Church Service, campfires and two Battle Reenactments.  While in Rand Park, visitors can tour the camps, visit Sutler’s Row, snack on period food and enjoy period entertainment.

This is a timeline event honoring veterans of all wars. Reenactors representing several centuries of military history will be on hand to answer questions, display clothing and accoutrements, and demonstrate weapons. This is a spectacular opportunity to see the evolution of the military profession through the ages and meet a variety of reenacting groups from around the Midwest.

Come and celebrate the birth of our nation in the military fashion of the early Republic. The Old Fort’s staff and volunteers will recreate the Independence Day celebrations commonly seen at United States military posts across the country in the early nineteenth century. Watch as the garrison fires thirteen shots in accompaniment with the officers' thirteen toasts in a period commemoration of the America's freedom. The ceremony will begin at 1 pm.

The first Lee County Fair was held in 1841 making it the oldest country fair in Iowa. The Lee County Fair has continued to grow and add many attractions over the years. Present day fair-goers find many different exhibitions; not only livestock and farm, but garden produce, art, sewing, and just any type of hobby or trade you can think of. Grand Stand events include tractor pulls, sprint car races, and a demolition derby. The Lee County Fair has something for everyone.
