The Nano Mini Exhibition is an interactive exhibition that engages family audiences in nanoscale science, engineering, and technology. Hands-on exhibits present the basics of nanoscience and engineering, introduce some real world applications, and explore the societal and ethical implications of this new technology. Nano was created by the Nanoscale Informal Science Education Network with support from the National Science Foundation.

Nature Connects: Art with LEGO® Bricks: Explore larger-than-life plants and animals made from LEGO® bricks as they take up summer residence in our world-famous Climatron®. This extraordinary exhibit of 25 sculptures inspired by nature is constructed with over 300,000 LEGO pieces. A majestic bald eagle, a beautiful monarch butterfly, and a giant praying mantis are among the installations featured in the exhibit. Don’t miss the Brookings Interpretive Center, where visitors of all ages will be invited to make, create, build, take apart, tinker, investigate, and discover.

ICE CREAM SOCIAL

This bienniaual Ice Cream Social is co-sponsored by the Wood River Parks & Recreation Department and the Wood River Women’s Club. Guests are invited to have some ice cream, listen to music by the Wood River Municipal Band, play in the bounce house, get their face painted, and more. A pie-eating contest will also take place, along with a cake walk, dunking booth and a person making balloon animals. The Wood River Woman’s Club will be selling watermelon slices, with proceeds from the event going to the club’s scholarship program.

Loose Threads Quilt Guild of St. Charles Missouri, a non-profit organization, will be hosting its bi-annual Quilt Show “Celebrate with Quilts” The show will include approximately 300 quilts of all shapes and sizes (vote on Saturday for your favorites), and a beautiful Raffle Quilt. Our Featured Quilter this year is avid quilter, LTQG member and mentor, Joan Abbitt. The event will also feature Holiday Challenge Quilts, demonstrations, vendors, quilt appraisals, and refreshments. The Charity chosen for this year is Lydias House who will have a representative there to educate about their cause.
