Winter is a great time to appreciate the wild birds in our area. Despite the weather there are still plenty of birds out there, Join professional birder Johanna Shipley for a slow paced mile walk to see how many birds you can identify, Afterwards there will be coffee, hot chocolate, and cookies.

Activities include tours of a 2000 year old excavation site, artifact identification, flintknapping demonstration, Kids’ Activity Area, special exhibits at the Visitors’ Center & Museum and much more. This event is in part supported by a grant from the Illinois Humanities Council, the Illinois General Assembly, and the National Endowment for the Humanities.

This event on the banks of the Illinois River depicts the life and times of the early Calhoun settlers. Civil War re-enactment, carriage rides, fiddle contest, mountain-man activities, apple-butter making and other period demonstrations, food, crafts, and live entertainment.

QUILT & CHURCH TOUR

Take a relaxing drive through Calhoun County to see displays of beautiful quilts, exhibits and activities. Visitors can also take part in quilt demonstrations, quilt appraisals, supplies and sales. As a bonus, attendees will be able to take a driving tour of the county to see 20 barn quilts.

The Center for American Archeology is celebrating the 40th Anniversary of the Koster Site excavation - the "Big Dig" that showed the world the fascinating lives of ancient Illinoisans. Tens of thousands of people have toured the site from 1969-1979. The event features special exhibits, guest presentations, and other activities to celebrate this important discovery. This anniversary event kames for a fun day trip that combines archeology, awesome fall colors, and Calhoun County apples.
